HOW SPOT WORKS
SPOT generates different types of messages for a series of designated email addresses (up to five), mobile
phones via SMS (up to five), or to a worldwide emergency service center. All signals include detailed GPS
coordinates. SPOT technology works with Google MapsTM which allows employers to view the worker`s
waypoints with the latest mapping technology, including map view, topographic view and satellite
photographs. With just the touch of a button, SPOT Satellite Messenger users can:
ALERT 9-1-1:
Use this function in the event of a life threatening or other critical emergency to notify
emergency services of the worker’s GPS location. Once activated, SPOT will acquire its
coordinates from the GPS network, and send that location along with a distress message, to a
GEOS International Emergency Response Center. SPOT sends the alert once every five minutes
until canceled. The Emergency Response Center notifies the appropriate emergency responders
based on the unit`s location as well as notifying your emergency contact person(s) about the
receipt of a distress signal.
ASK FOR HELP:
For less critical emergencies, workers can press this button to send pre-programmed requests
for help to their head office or supervisor’s e-mail or cell phones. Once activated, SPOT
acquires the location from the GPS network and routes it along with the HELP message
through the SPOT satellite network every five minutes for one hour or until canceled. Contacts
will receive an SMS text message including coordinates, or an email with a link to Google
Maps™ showing the worker`s location.
CHECK IN:
Workers simply need to press this button to advise employers if they have arrived at a location
and/or to keep them posted on where they are at specified intervals. Contacts will receive an
SMS text message including coordinates, or an email with a link to Google Maps™ showing
the worker`s location.
TRACK PROGRESS:
This optional feature allows employers to track the GPS location of the remote worker via
Google MapsTM. The worker’s GPS location is acquired and transmitted every 10 minutes for 24
hours. In addition to tracking a worker’s location throughout the day, it also helps employers
and workers in uncharted areas to record safe routes for future reference.
